Mohammed Shami to join Team India after IND vs AUS 2nd Test, childhood coach reveals

Mohammed Shami, who made his return to competitive cricket in the Ranji Trophy, is expected to join the Indian side after the IND vs AUS 2nd Test

India cricket team pacer Mohammed Shami is expected to join the team for IND vs AUS Test series following the 2nd Test in Adelaide. The veteran returned to competitive cricket in Ranji Trophy after being on the sidelines ever since the conclusion of the ODI World Cup in 2023 due to an ankle injury. Now, the pacer’s childhood coach has provided an update on when Shami will join the Indian team in Australia for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

When will Mohammed Shami join India for IND vs AUS Test series?

As per India Today, Mohammed Shami’s childhood coach Badruddin claimed that the pacer will be crucial in the second half of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The gruelling five-match IND vs AUS Test series will get underway from November 22, with Perth scheduled to host the 1st Test. Shami announced his return in style, bagging four wickets against Madhya Pradesh in Bengal’s fifth round Ranji Trophy match.

He will be joining the Indian team after the Adelaide (second) Test. Now that he is back, proved his fitness, picked up wickets, he will be crucial for the team in the second half of the tour,” Badruddin said.

Shami was slated to make his return in the fourth round of Ranji Trophy. However, complications in his recovery led to a delay in his comeback. The veteran pacer underwent an ankle surgery earlier this year following which he was recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. While he failed to make it to India’s squad for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy that was announced earlier, he is expected to join the side midway through the series.

If all goes well, Mohammed Shami could even be playing the second IND vs AUS Test, in Adelaide from December 6. Meanwhile, selection panel’s Ajay Ratra and the NCA medical team head, Nitin Patel have crucial roles here. Their feedback will be given to Ajit Agarkar, Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma.

Obviously, Shami was asked to play this game keeping in mind that the next round of Ranji Trophy will only start on January 23 after the Test season is over,” a BCCI sourced told PTI.
