Mohammed Shami has been out of the Indian team since the World Cup final in 2023, and has suffered many setbacks due his injury issues. Even though he has been playing in the domestic circuit since then, there is no real clarity on the fitness of Shami, by the BCCI or even the NCA. There were speculations, that he would join the Indian squad for the Border-Gavaskar trophy, but that never happened.
Mohammed Shami Fit for Champions Trophy?
Even skipper Rohit Sharma had spoken on Shami’s fitness during the recently concluded series. “I think it’s high time somebody from NCA talked about him. That’s our national cricket academy where he is rehabbing. Those guys are the ones who need to come up and give us some kind of update. But look, I understand he’s playing a lot of cricket back home, but there have been some complaints about his knee as well,” Rohit said in the post-match press meet.
But now Mohammed Shami seems to have taken the initiative himself. On Tuesday, the pacer shared a video, with the caption “Precision, Pace, and Passion, All Set to Take on the World! 🌍💪,” giving hope to the fans, that he might return soon, and maybe also play in the Champions Trophy 2025.
Shami Gives Big Update on Fitness
In the video, Shami can be seen bowling full throttle. Although, he has just played two matches in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in the current season, but featured in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he picked up 11 wickets in 9 matches, at an average of 25, and even an economy rate of 7.85.
