Just a couple of months remain before the all important Border-Gavaskar Trophy starts. And ace Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has picked his favourite for the India vs Australia Test series. The speedster has claimed that the India Cricket Team are favourites and that Australia should be worried about facing Rohit Sharma and Co.
As for Shami, he is currently recovering from his ankle injury. The pacer was in Kolkata for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB’s) Annual Awards. When questioned about the BGT, Shami replied that “Favourites toh hum hi hai, chinta unhe honi chahiye (We are the favourites, they should be worried).”
When Will Shami make a comeback?
While Mohammed Shami has made it clear that India are favourites, he is currently looking to make a comeback for the IND vs AUS Test series. He hopes of playing a couple of Ranji Trophy matches before making his international comeback.
Shami went to lengths to explain his situation. Shami claimed that he is not forcing and rushing to comeback. He wants to be a 100% fit and work on his fitness. The pacer has no intention of rushing through his recovery and then encountering discomfort.
“I am working hard to make a comeback soon because I know I have been out of action for quite some time. However, I want to ensure there is no discomfort when I return. I’ve to work on my fitness, so that there is no discomfort,” Shami said.
Shami who last played in the ODI World Cup finals, underwent the knife on his ankle. Initial reports claimed that he can try and make a comeback for either IND vs BAN or IND vs NZ Tests, but that is not the case. He is keen to recover in time and be fit for the most important Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
