India cricket team pacer Mohammed Shami is all set to return to competitive cricket soon and has revealed that he is “pain free”. The bowler has been recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru after he underwent a surgery earlier this year. Shami is targeting to make his comeback in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia.
Pain free Shami eyes India return in Australia Tests
As per Rev Sportz, Shami stated that he is pain free now and that he wanted to bowl enough before going to Australia. The veteran pacer also expressed his desire to play at least a couple of Ranji Trophy matches before the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
“I am pain free now. I want to make sure I bowl enough before going to Australia. And for that I’m targeting 1-2 Ranji games,” Shami said.

Shami was seen bowling in full tilt in Bengaluru following the IND vs NZ 1st Test. The 34-year-old fast bowler had heavy strapping on his left knee but bowled at full tilt to India assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, with bowling coach Morne Morkel watching over the session. He did not look in any obvious discomfort, bowling almost continuously and only taking a break for the fielding drill close to the boundary.
When will Shami return to action?
The pacer has been on the sidelines ever since the ODI World Cup in 2023 and went on to miss IPL 2024 entirely. Recently, reports had claimed that Shami had developed a swelling in his knees and that his comeback maybe delayed. However, the pacer took to social media platform X to rubbish the “baseless rumours” and said that he was putting in all the effort to make his comeback as soon as possible.
“We don’t want to bring an undercooked Shami to Australia. That is not going to be the right decision for us. He has not played any cricket for over a year. It is quite tough for a fast bowler to have missed so much of cricket and then suddenly to come out and be at his best. It is not ideal. We will want to give him enough time to recover and be 100% fit,” Rohit Sharma said previously.
