Mohammed Shami is “all set” to be back after 360 days, eyes India return through Ranji Trophy

For India, Shami's return to fitness ahead of the crucial Australian tour is a major boost. His form and fitness will be closely observed.

It was the unforgettable November 19 (2023) night when Mohammed Shami played his last competitive match. And now. after 360 days, the star Indian pacer will be back in action after a lengthy injury layoff! Shami, who could be amongst India’s BGT plans, will feature in the Ranji Trophy game for Bengal against Madhya Pradesh, starting from November 13.

Mohammed Shami returns with “same energy & passion”

On the eve of the Ranji Trophy clash, Shami shared photos from an Airport, going to Indore, where the Bengal vs MP Ranji Trophy match will be played. Shami, on his social media, wrote:

Back in Action” 360 days is a long long time!! All set for the Ranji Trophy. Now back on the domestic stage with the same passion and energy. Huge thanks to all my fans for your endless love, support, and motivation,– let’s make this season memorable!

Mohammed Shami is poised to return to competitive cricket after a lengthy rehabilitation period following an Achilles heel injury and subsequent knee swelling. Shami’s last appearance for India during the ODI World Cup last year, where he was almost unplayable, taking 24 wickets in 7 innings.

Although he hasn’t been named in the Test squad for the upcoming Australia tour, starting November 22, Shami’s fitness progress could lead to a potential call-up. India skipper Rohit Sharma had also expressed hopes of Shami’s availability for part of the tour. Shami’s successful rehabilitation, including sessions at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, boosts India’s prospects ahead of the five-Test series in Australia. His return to competitive cricket will be a welcome addition to the team.
