Mohammed Shami back in action! Starts preparation for IND vs BAN test series

Shami last played competitive cricket in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he finished as the top wicket-taker with 24 scalps.

Indian team pacer Mohammed Shami has stepped on the ground again as he started bowling in the nets session at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.

Shami’s update on his bowling hints at his inclusion in the upcoming India vs. Bangladesh series. Recently, in March, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said, “Shami’s return is likely for the home series against Bangladesh.” The team is set to play two Test matches in India.

Shami missed several tournaments

The fast bowler successfully underwent surgery on February 26th, 2024, for a right heel problem. Shami has missed the South Africa vs. India Test series in December, the India vs. England Test series from January to March, the IPL 2024 season, and the T20 World Cup.

Shami might play domestic cricket

Mohammed Shami might play domestic cricket. Recently, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah made it clear that players in the national side must make themselves available for domestic engagements when they are not on national duty. Also, it would be a good warm-up for Shami to compete on the international stage.

Indian players recovered at NCA

Mohammed Shami starts bowling. Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, KL Rahul, Jasprit Bumrah, and Shreyas Iyer have all undergone successful rehabilitation at the NCA in the last year. Having been out of action since the ODI World Cup, it’s expected that he’ll be eased back slowly to avoid any chances of aggravating his injury and delaying his comeback.
