Criticism is pouring in from all corners for Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan after he and his team ended their Champions Trophy campaign on a poor note. Pakistan cricket experts and fans have questioned his approach as the leader of the country’s white-ball team. Now, former Indian cricketer Yograj Singh, known for making headlines, has also criticised Pakistan’s white-ball captain.
In an interview with News18 Sports Next, when asked about his views on the current Pakistan cricket team, Yograj Singh clearly stated that the team is struggling, and one of the key reasons is their captain, Mohammad Rizwan, who has failed to step up when needed the most.
“Leadership nahi hai” – Yograj Singh on Rizwan
As mentioned, the former pacer questioned Rizwan’s leadership skills, saying, “Some bowlers bowled really well, but the captain should know and guide the bowlers on where to pitch the ball and field setup, the captain should discuss it with his teammates.”
Apart from criticising the captain, he also commented on Abrar Ahmed, whose celebration after dismissing Shubman Gill came under fire.
Pakistan’s poor show in Champions Trophy
Loss against New Zealand and then against India—in a tournament where losing even one match can completely derail a team’s semifinal hopes—Mohammad Rizwan and co. lost both games.
Looking at Pakistan’s recent form in ODI cricket, things haven’t been going well, especially in the recently held tri-series. While they did make it to the finals, they were expected to win the tournament but fell short. Now, in the Champions Trophy, their poor performance has knocked them out of the semifinal race. It will be highly interesting to see how things comes for Pakistan’s white-ball side in the coming times.
