Rizwan confident Pakistan will beat Australia in Down Under, forgets 4-1 humiliation from 2017

Pakistan's new white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan claimed that the team will approach PAK vs AUS series with the attitude to beat Australia at their home

Newly-appointed Pakistan white-ball captain Mohammad Rizwan exuded confidence in the side beating Australia in their own backyard. The Men in Green will lock horns with the Aussies from November 4 onwards in a three-match ODI series followed by a T20I series. The last time Pakistan traveled to Australia was in 2016/17 where they were handed a 4-1 thrashing.

Rizwan confident of Pakistan winning PAK vs AUS series

In a video uploaded by the PCB on social media platform X, Rizwan explained that Pakistan came very close to defeating Australia in their previous encounter. The two sides last clashed in a 50-over game in the ODI World Cup in 2023 where Australia emerged victorious. Prior to that, Pakistan secured a 2-1 series win against the Aussies when the latter toured Pakistan in 2022. However, the last time Pakistan clashed with Australia in an ODI series Down Under, they were handed a 4-1 thrashing.

In the last series we played in Australia, every match was almost ours to win, but we lost very closely. We have noticed a few things and will work on them when we go there, taking positives from it. Inshallah, we will beat Australia in Australia,” Rizwan said.

Rizwan was named Babar Azam’s successor after the latter stepped down as the white-ball skipper following the T20 World Cup. The PAK vs AUS series will be the keeper-batter’s first assignment as skipper. Pakistan played their last ODI nearly a year ago and it was against England in the WC. Since then, the side has only played Tests and T20Is so far. In the lead up to the Champions Trophy in 2025, Pakistan are scheduled to play 11 ODIs on the trot, embarking on a hectic white-ball schedule.
