While Pakistan’s T20 World Cup 2024 hopes hang by a thread, three of their star players have signed with the new Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise, Antigua & Barbuda Falcons. Mohammad Amir, Imad Wasim, and Fakhar Zaman will join the Falcons for the 2024 season, which begins on August 29. This news comes after Pakistan’s heartbreaking 6-run defeat to India in New York on Sunday. Following this, Pakistan faces a must-win match against Canada on Tuesday.
CPL debutants on song!
The Falcons have been busy building their squad ahead of their debut season. Alongside the Pakistani trio, they’ve secured Australian off-spinner Chris Green and Afghanistan’s all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai. West Indies’ Brandon King, Fabian Allen, and exciting young batsman Jewel Andrew have also been signed.
The CPL’s newest franchise fills the void left by Antigua Hawksbills, which participated in the inaugural CPL seasons before being replaced by the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots in 2015. The 2024 edition of the CPL will be played from August 28 to October 6, with Antigua hosting matches for the first time in a decade.
Other notable signings across the league include Tim David and Jason Roy (Trinbago Knight Riders), Heinrich Klaasen (St Lucia Kings), and Wanindu Hasaranga and Tristan Stubbs (St Kitts and Nevis Patriots).
