Mitchell Starc to be X-factor for KKR: Gautam Gambhir warns other IPL teams

KKR is set to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on March 23.

Former Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) skipper Gautam Gambhir has made a grand comeback to the team, this time in the role of mentor, sparking excitement among fans ahead of the IPL 2024 season.

On his return, Gautam Gambhir stated that big-money signing Mitchell Starc will be an X-factor for the two-time champions in IPL 2024.

Emotional Homecoming for Gautam Gambir

Expressing his sentiment towards KKR, Gambhir described the team not just as a franchise but as an emotion. The two-time IPL-winning captain, who led KKR to victory in 2012 and 2014, arrived in Kolkata to embark on his new journey with the team.

Fans’ Expectations

Acknowledging the high expectations from the passionate KKR supporters, Gambhir expressed his desire to meet the fans’ expectations and bring joy to them once again.

During his previous tenure with KKR from 2011 to 2017, Gambhir led the team to five IPL playoffs appearances and a Champions League T20 final in 2014, cementing his legacy with the franchise.

Mitchell Starc: The X-factor in IPL 2024

Gautam Gambhir identified Australian pace spearhead Mitchell Starc as the potential game-changer for KKR in the upcoming IPL season.

Mitchell Starc, who was acquired by KKR for a hefty sum of Rs 24.75 crore in the auction, is expected to be the team’s X-factor according to Gambhir.

Despite the pressure that comes with a high price tag, Gambhir believes Starc’s international experience will prove invaluable for KKR, hoping that he replicates his success with the Australian team in the IPL.

“I don’t think the price tag will be an added pressure for him. I only hope he can do for KKR what he does for Australia in international cricket,” he said as quoted by TOI.

Road Ahead for KKR

KKR is gearing up for their first practice session at the iconic Eden Gardens stadium on Friday, where the Indian players will begin their preparations. With the arrival of foreign cricketers imminent, KKR is set to kick off their IPL 2024 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad at home on March 23.
