Mitchell Starc clears the air on injury concerns, Josh Inglis ruled out of Australia vs India Tests

Josh Inglis was part of the squad from the start, but with Alex Carey in form, he didn't get a chance to fit into the XI.

Another injury blow for the Australian cricket team. Having already lost Cameron Green before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy and with uncertainty over Josh Hazlewood’s availability for the Sydney Test, Australia will be without their back-up wicketkeeper, Josh Inglis, in the last match of the Australia vs India Test series.

Having come on as the substitute fielder on the second day of the Boxing Day Test, Inglis suffered a calf strain. “A replacement in the squad for the fifth Test match in Sydney will be announced in due course. Inglis is anticipated to be available for Australia’s tour of Sri Lanka, which follows the home Test Series. His availability for the Big Bash League will be determined by his return to play management plan,” said an Australian team spokesperson.

Mitchell Starc fit for Boxing Day Test

Yesterday (December 28), Mitchell Starc was also seen grimacing and touching his back while bowling towards the back end of the day. There were concerns that Starc, like Hazlewood, might be doubtful for the Sydney Test as well. The left-arm pacer has already delivered 115.2 overs, which is the third most after Pat Cummins and Jasprit Bumrah.

However, the pacer has assured everyone he was fit before taking the field on the fourth day of the Boxing Day Test. “All good. The pace didn’t drop, so I’m all good. I’m ready to go today,” Starc told SEN Cricket. But this doesn’t mean that he’ll be fit for the Sydney Test.

Australia has replacements for Starc if he’s injured for the last Test of the series in Beau Webster, Sean Abbott, and Jhye Richardson, but if Hazlewood is fit, he might come in for him as well.
