Mitchell Marsh: Australia have pulled a rabbit out of the bag as they have announced Mitchell Marsh as captain for the T20 series against South Africa. Marsh pipped the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis and bagged the role after Aaron Finch announced retirement from international cricket after leading Australia to T20 World Cup 2022. Marsh’s first assignment will begin against South Africa in the T20 series.

“Mitch has long been a senior player within the white-ball structure, with this an opportunity for him to add to his leadership skills at the international level,” said selection chair George Bailey. “We look forward to him taking that step in South Africa.”

Marsh’s captaincy announcement comes on the back of his stellar performance in the 2021 World Cup. Promoted at number three, the all-rounder played a key role in Australia winning the maiden T20 World Cup. In the final against New Zealand, the right-hand batter scored a scintillating 77 runs from just 50 balls.
