England Cricket Team ace batter Joe Root is en route to register a mega landmark. And the star Three Lions batter has a golden batter a golden chance to achieve the landmark in the ENG vs SL 3rd Test at Oval. With 52 runs needed, Joe Root can become the first batter in the history of cricket to register 5000 runs in World Test Championship (WTC).

Joe Root showcased his batting brilliance when he went on to slam dual tons in both innings of the ENG vs SL 2nd Test at the Lords. Currently, Root is placed with 4948 runs in WTC. It has taken the 33-year old batter just 57 WTC matches to pile up such a humongous margin of runs.

And now Joe Root is just 96 runs shy of the former skipper. Root, in 145 Test matches have managed to amass 12377 runs and when India tours England in June-August of 2025, then he can achieve the record by scoring just 96 runs.

Furthermore, Joe Root is now very close to match and then overtake former Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara in most Test runs list. The former southpaw had 12400 Test runs and Root needs just 24 runs to become the 6th highest. If Root managed to amass 96 runs, he can become the fifth highest run getter in the longest format of the game.
