Former England captain Michael Vaughan has expressed his concerns about India’s young opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal posing a significant challenge for England in the remaining three matches of the ongoing five-Test series.
Jaiswal has showcased exceptional performance throughout the series, notably in the second Test where he rectified his previous shortcomings to achieve his maiden double-century in Tests, scoring an impressive 209 runs from 290 deliveries in the first innings at Visakhapatnam.
Speaking on the YouTube channel ‘Club Prairie Fire’ about the ongoing Test series, Vaughan emphasized, “I would say he is a problem for England. He is an issue. He is an unbelievable player.” Vaughan also reminisced about meeting Jaiswal in Mumbai and witnessing his subsequent century in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
“I met him in Mumbai and he got a hundred the next day in the IPL.” he added.
Reflecting on Jaiswal’s remarkable performance against a formidable English team led by Ben Stokes, Vaughan remarked, “Now he has gone on to score a double-hundred against the best team in the world.” Jaiswal’s swift adaptation to the demands of international cricket was evident from his debut in the first Test against West Indies in 2023, where he scored 171 runs. Additionally, he made an impact in his second T20I, contributing 84 runs.
While most Indian batsmen have struggled for consistency in the series, Jaiswal has stood out with a double-century and a fifty, establishing himself as the leading run-scorer with a total of 321 runs.
