Michael Slater collapses in Australian court after being denied bail in domestic abuse case

Police have accused Slater of making intimidating phone calls and sending unsolicited texts during the previous six months.

Former Australian cricketer Michael Slater reportedly collapsed in front of an Australian judge on Tuesday after being denied bail on over a dozen charges, some of which included stalking. Local media reported that the 54-year-old fell to the ground and needed assistance from court personnel to get back up after a Queensland magistrate denied his request for bail.

In addition to common assault and unlawful stalking, the television commentator and former batter is accused of domestic violence offenses. Police have accused Slater of making intimidating phone calls and sending unsolicited texts during the previous six months. He is due to appear in court again at the end of May.

After being arrested over the weekend, Slater spent the last few days in the Maroochydore police watch house. He then applied for bail. It’s also important to remember that some of the alleged acts, such as the victim’s alleged repeated verbal abuse during which he screamed obscenities and other abuse, were captured on camera at the victim’s property before he broke through the door.
