Michael Holding calls out ICC for hypocrisy amid Usman Khawaja saga

Khawaja was fined by the ICC for sporting a black armband in protest of the organisation's ruling to stop him from raising his voice.

Michael Holding has called out the ICC’s handling of the Usman Khawaja saga. For the unaware, Khawaja recently voiced his support for humanity amid the Israel-Palentine conflict and the loss inflicted on human lives because of it. The opener was denied wearing shoes marked with the “All Lives Matter” slogan and later fined for donning a black armband in protest of the ICC’s rules and regulations.

Now, legendary cricketer Michael Holding has come out in his support while lashing out at the cricketing body for the handling of the whole situation.

Speaking to The Weekend Australian, Holding said: “I have been following the Khawaja fiasco, and I cannot say I’m surprised by the ICC’s stance.

“If it had been most other organisations that showed some semblance of consistency with their attitude and behaviour on issues, I could claim surprise, but not them. Once again, they show their hypocrisy and lack of moral standing as an organisation.”

Pointing out the ICC’s hypocrisy with its rules and regulations, Holding stated that players were allowed to wear ‘Black Lives Matter’ shirts and kneel before the start of play to show support, so why is the organisation stopping Usman Khawaja from raising his voice now?

“The ICC regulations say re messaging ‘approval shall not be granted for messages which relate to political, religious, or racial activities or causes.”

To further illustrate his point, the now-retired commentator stated that coloured stumps have also been used in cricket (to show support to the LGBTQ community) prior to this, and the ICC did not take any action then, so why now?

“So how the f*** people were allowed to take the knee for BLM and stumps were covered with LGBTQ colours?”
