With MI chasing 200, Brevis came into bat after the dismissal of Rohit Sharma in the third over of the innings. The 18-year old got off the mark immediately by scoring a boundary through covers off the very first delivery he faced in the innings.
When Dushmanta Chameera came into bowl the fifth over, Brevis got beaten by pace off the first delivery he faced. He however gave the bowler a terrific reply as he stood on the crease and just timed the ball to perfection, which went a long way into the stands over long on.
What was more striking in the shot was how he held his pose and looked at the bowler immediately after hitting the ball. Murali Kartik commentationg on air said, “He’s not even looking at the ball, he’s looking at the bowler telling him, you have been dispatched. What a shot!” Brevis continued his onslaught in the over by scoring two more boundaries with Chameera giving away 20 runs in the over.
His swashbuckling innings however came to an end as he was dismissed by Avesh Khan after scoring 31 off 13 balls, with six fours and one six.
The South African batsman, who broke into the scene during the Under-19 World Cup, where he was the highest-run scorer of the tournament, was picked by Mumbai Indians at the auction this year for 3 crores.
He has already displayed his calibre on the big stage this season. In the previous game against Punjab Kings, he hit four consecutive sixes off Rahul Chahar and scored 49 runs in the match, which is so far his highest score in IPL. In four matches he has scored 117 runs at an impressive strike rate of 172.05.
