In their opening clash, which was also the first match of the second phase of the tournament, Mumbai Indians faced crushing defeat by 20 runs against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). No doubt the blue brigade would be eying a comeback in their upcoming clash against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on September 23, Thursday, at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) would be coming in the contest with extra confidence after they piped Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by nine wickets and 10 overs to spare. The two sides have cutthroat competition as MI stand fourth on the points table (8 matches, 4 wins) while KKR rest at the fifth spot (8 matches, 5 wins). Both the teams would be desperately searching for a win to up their chances in the top four of the points table.

  • MI all-rounder Hardik Pandya missed the opening game against Chennai Super Kings as a precautionary measure due to a little niggle.
  • MI captain Rohit Sharma also wasn’t part of the MI. However, head coach Mahela Jayawardene confirmed Sharma’s availability for the next match.
