MI vs DC: Shreyas Iyer in IPL 2021
- Shreyas Iyer arrived in UAE 10 days prior to DC’s departure to the gulf country.
- The 26-year-old underwent special training sessions in the UAE to prepare for his return to cricket.
- He missed the first phase of IPL 2021 due to a finger injury that he had sustained during India vs England T20 series in Ahmedabad.
- Iyer played match-winning knocks of 47 and 43 against SRH and RR to guide DC into the playoffs.
- His recent performances rung alarm bells to India’s T20 World Cup selectors amid lean patch for SuryaKumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan.
“We have Shreyas Iyer as the backup, if there are any concerns, he could be added. But it’s too early to say anything. Ishan Kishan is an important player and so are Suryakumar and others. There is no point speculating,” a BCCI source told insidesport.co
“Yes, it is a bit of a concern but we still have few matches left in IPL to get them back in form. Hopefully, they will. Suryakumar has been amongst runs for India so he is not a big concern at the moment. Ishan Kishan too did well in Sri Lanka. Virat also spoke to him on Sunday and let’s see how it goes,” he added.
