On Tuesday, Cricket South Africa (CSA) released their list of central contracted players ahead of the upcoming 2024/25 season, starting from May 1. The national squad list has seen a welcome addition of Mumbai Indians’ Gerald Coetzee and Rajathan Royals’ Nandre Burger, who both also recently got their maiden IPL contacts.
However, Anrich Nortje, who missed out on majority of 2023, including the ODI World Cup, was left out of the released list. He sustained a back injury last year that had kept him on the sidelines for several months.
Talking about Coetzee and Burger, both the pacers have been sensational for South Africa in the recent past. Coetzee, whose 20 wickets at the 2023 ODI World Cup put him in the spotlight, was previously part of the contract but has now been upgraded to the full-year contract.
Coetzee & Burger Make Decent IPL Starts
Coetzee was acquired for INR 5 crore at the IPL 2024 auction. The right-armer was handed his debut against the Gujarat Titans (GT), where he bowled a strong spell of 2/27.
Burger, meanwhile, was signed up by the Royals (RR) for his base price of INR 50 lakhs. Similar to Coetzee, Burger played his maiden IPL game recently, taking one wicket in the clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
No place for Anrich Nortje and Quinton de Kock on CSA list
The fact that its been more than five months since Anrich Nortje played his last international game didn’t help his cause, as he missed out on the CSA contract. However, Nortje, who recently became a father for the first time, has joined the Delhi Capitals (DC) camp and is likely to feature in the upcoming IPL games.
LSG opener Quinton de Kock is another major name who is not part of the recently-announced CSA list. The southpaw announced his retirement from ODIs following South Africa’s heart-breaking semi-final exit from the ODI World Cup last year.
