MI at IPL Auction 2025: Rs 26.10 crore left, 9 slots to fill, what do Mumbai Indians need on Day 2?

Mumbai Indians (MI) need to psych up on Day 2 of the IPL 2025 Auction. They have as many as 9 slots to fill up, that too, in minimum.

The Mumbai Indians (MI) were one of the quietest teams on Day 1 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. They retained one of the best combinations. MI retained their core Indian group, including Rohit SharmaJasprit BumrahHardik PandyaSuryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma.  They sat out for the entire Marquee List set. While they did bid for Mitchell Starc, MI’s first signing came in the form of Trent Boult. It was a fresh addition to the squad and also MI’s first overseas signing.

Apart from this, MI signed just three more players. Those three were – Karn Sharma, Robin Minz and Naman Dhir (RTM). For Naman, MI used their only RTM card and shelled out Rs 5.25 crore, signalling that they really have high hopes from the Punjab-born batter. Last season, he made 140 runs at an incredible SR of 177.22. Having said that, they have gaping hopes to fill. In fact, their four buys were the lowest by any franchise on Day 1 of the IPL 2025 Auction.

MI: Gaps to fill at IPL Auction 2025 Day 2

Mumbai Indians don’t have a total of 11 players to make their XI right now. Their retentions were solid enough to keep their Indian batting core intact. They did add Naman Dhir and Robin Minz, MI lack overseas buys. They have a maximum of 7 buys left as far as overseas are concerned. While they have bought Trent Boult, MI surely need more bowlers to complement Bumrah.

MI IPL 2025: Which overseas players to target?

Mumbai let go of Marcus Stoinis, Glenn Maxwell, and Wanindu Hasaranga, who could have been a perfect fit at MI. But today, they need to buckle up and claim for all-rounders. Marco Jansen, Sam Curran and Will Jacks are three of the best all-round options apart from Sikandar Raza and Moeen Ali.

MI even needs their compulsory left-arm pacers. While the aforementioned Jansen and Curran are options, there are Spencer Johnson, Mustafizur Rahman, and Jason Behrendorff. And don’t forget, Fazalhaq Farooqi!

MI IPL 2025: Which Indian players to target?

There is a plethora of Indian talents coming too. Deepak Chahar, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Akash Deep, and Yudhvir Singh Charak are great bowling options. But surely Robin Minz can’t be your only wicketkeeping option. Ryan Rickelton is looking suited to become the next MI player. He plays for their sister franchise, MI Cape Town, and can be the next Quinton de Kock of the franchise.
