Temba Bavuma will be out leading South Africa once again, this time against India for the first time after the side’s exit at the World Cup 2023. Bavuma missed the limited-overs series against India owing to a personal bereavement. The Proteas led by the batter exited the World Cup after a loss to Australia at the semi-finals, thus retaining the tag of the prized ‘chokers’ of the marquee event.
Bavuma breaks silence after World Cup 2023 exit
Ahead of his first assignment after the World Cup exit, Bavuma offered an insight into his preparations for the IND vs SA Test series. Despite the World Cup 2023 exit, the South African Test skipper believes that he is mentally fresh and that while he enjoyed his time at home, he had very little red-ball action. Not to forget, he wasn’t a part of the white-ball squad against India owing to personal reasons.
“Mentally I am as fresh as ever,” he said. “I didn’t get any red-ball cricket. Things happened with a bereavement at home. But I’ve enjoyed the time being at home, with the wife and the little one but I missed the cricket and was watching the guys in T20Is and ODIs. We don’t usually get breaks this long, especially in-season so I’ll take the break”, he added, as per ESPNCricinfo.
