Big Bash League club Melbourne Renegades claim they have received no communication after Mujeeb Ur Rahman got sanctioned by ACB

Mujeeb Ur Rahman’s sanction by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has caused a new trouble. Big Bash League club Melbourne Renegades have claimed that their club is aware of the sanctions imposed on the player. The Melbourne based club has claimed that they have received no communication about the availability of the player.

Offical Statement from Melbourne Renegades

The Melbourne Renegades are aware of the matter between Mujeeb Ur Rahman and the Afghanistan Cricket Board. The club has received no communication that Mujeeb’s availability for the BBL could change from original plans. Mujeeb remains available for the Melbourne Renegades’ important match against Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium. Mujeeb is a world class player and a popular member of the squad, and the club will continue to support him for the rest of the BBL season.

Recently, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has sanctioned three Afghanistan players for “prioritizing their personal interests over playing for Afghanistan.” The players include the likes of Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Fazalhaq Farooqi and Naveen Ul Haq.

“The insistence on not signing the central contract for these players was their involvement in commercial leagues, prioritising their personal interests over playing for Afghanistan, which is regarded as a national responsibility. By opting for their release, the Afghanistan Cricket Board has decided to take disciplinary measures against these players,” read ACB’s statement.

The three players got their current NOC’s revoked. Furthermore, the board announced that the trio will not receive any NOCs for the next two years. Meanwhile adding more misery, the ACB has also delayed given these three players their central contracts for 2024.
