Mayank Yadav’s sizzling spell leaves Shikhar Dhawan surprised, reveals how his plan flopped

Mayank Yadav's fiery spell left Shikhar Dhawan bamboozled and the PBKS skipper revealed how his plan against the pacer backfired

21-year-old Mayank Yadav breathed fire on his IPL debut against PBKS in Lucknow. A barrage of fiery deliveries, including the fastest delivery of IPL 2024, stopped PBKS’s onslaught dead on the tracks. PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan, who was on the receiving end from Yadav, revealed that he was surprised by Mayank Yadav’s pace.

Shikhar Dhawan mighty impressed with Mayank Yadav

We started off well, but Mayank bowled well with his pace. It was nice facing him, I was surprised at his pace, but I wanted to use his pace against him, but he bowled the bouncers and the yorkers well. I was quite mindful, asked the batters to use the short side and use his pace, but he bowled into his body (on Bairstow’s dismissal) and got him OUT, I said the same to Jitesh as well,” Shikhar Dhawan said after PBKS’s defeat.

The IPL debutant became the first Indian pacer to bowl over 150 kmph in IPL 2024. The pacer delivered a 155.8 kmph delivery to PBKS skipper Shikhar Dhawan. He finished his spell with figures of 3/27 at an economy rate of 6.80.

“Young Mayank Yadav bowled with serious heat and got wickets. Very happy for him. He got injured in the first warm up game last season and got ruled out so had to manage him better this time. He bowled 155 tonight and made life uncomfortable. He ran in and that was the pleasing thing for all of us,” bowling coach Morne Morkel said.
