England’s fast bowler Mark Wood has been added to the test squad for the second match against the West Indies starting on Thursday in Nottingham’s Trent Bridge. Wood will replace James Anderson, who retired after England’s win at Lord’s on Friday.
Wood rested for the first test
Wood played his last test against India earlier this year. He was not chosen for the first test because he just finished playing in the T20 World Cup. Wook took 3 wickets in the five matches he played in the USA and West Indies.
England gave a test debut to Gus Atkinson in the first match, and he took 12 wickets.
Wood’s record in tests
Mark Wood has a great record in test cricket. Having played 34 matches, he has taken 108 wickets. He took four fivers in the format as well.
England squad for second Test: Ben Stokes (capt), Gus Atkinson, Shoaib Bashir, Harry Brook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Dan Lawrence, Dillon Pennington, Ollie Pope, Matthew Potts, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood
