Stoinis was seen in extreme pain as the physio came running in to assess him. During the physio’s inspection, the all-rounder hugged the former. Stoinis was taken off the field in the middle of the over and Ayush Badoni bowled the last ball.

Stoinis got the prized scalp of PBKS captain Shikhar Dhawan in the first over itself but the injury cut short his spell.

Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants set a new record after they posted the second-highest total in IPL history against Punjab Kings.

After being put to bat first, Lucknow Super Giants scored a massive 257/5 in their allotted 20 overs, thanks to an outstanding batting performance from Marcus Stoinis (72), Kyle Mayers (54), Ayush Badoni (42), and Nicholas Pooran (45). Stoinis was the top scorer for his side with a blistering 72 off 40 balls, smashing six fours and five sixes in his innings.

Punjab Kings started their innings in pursuit of Lucknow’s mammoth total, but they lost Shikhar Dhawan (1 off 2) and Prabhsimran Singh (9 off 13) inside the powerplay and were 55/2 after six overs. The loss of early wickets put the Punjab side on the backfoot, and despite some valiant efforts from their middle-order batsmen, lost the game by 56 runs.

Atharava Taide was the top scorer for Punjab Kings in their chase. Taide smashed his maiden fifty in IPL, scoring 66 off 36 balls. However, the likes of Liam Livingstone (36 off 22) and Sikandar Raza (23 off 14) could not play a long innings which led to Punjab’s defeat. Young pacer Yash Thakur was the most successful bowler with figures of 4/37 in 4 overs.
