An unforeseen setback has occurred in all-rounder Deepak Hooda’s career ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. His chances of claiming a bid at the next auction, which is set for November 24–25 in Jeddah, may be impacted. This is because the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has included him among the players whose bowling action is added to the suspected list. Apart from this, veteran batter Manish Pandey has been altogether ‘banned’ from bowling across all forms of competitive cricket.
Deepak Hooda deals a massive blow before IPL Auction!
The timing couldn’t be worse for Deepak Hooda, who was recently released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) after a disappointing 2024 season. While he hasn’t been banned from bowling like Manish Pandey and Sreejith Krishnan, the uncertainty surrounding his action puts a question mark over his value as an all-rounder – the very quality that made him an attractive pick for IPL teams. There are already not many established names in the category of Indian batters (with abilities to bowl too) in the IPL auction.
Looking at Hooda’s IPL numbers tells the story of a useful all-rounder who has contributed consistently over the years. With 1,465 runs including 8 half-centuries, and 10 wickets to his name, he has proven his worth as a versatile player. However, his performance dipped significantly in the last season, managing just 145 runs in 11 matches and also going wicketless.

This development has been broken by Cricbuzz. Cricbuzz’s statement read, “The BCCI has released the list of bowlers who are either banned for suspect action or are in the danger of being banned. Manish Pandey (KSCA, 157) and Shrijith Krishnan (KSCA, 281) have been banned from bowling while Deepak Hooda, an off-spinner from Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA), is in the suspect bowling list. Saurabh Dubey (344, VCA) and KC Cariappa (381, CAM) are also in the suspect list.”
Players who have been banned from bowling by BCCI
- Manish Pandey (Karnataka)
- Shrijith Krishnan (Karnataka)
Players who have been added to suspected bowling list by BCCI
- Deepak Hooda (Rajasthan)
- Saurabh Dubey (Vidarbha)
- KC Cariappa (Mizoram)
It is interesting to note that this development might not affect Manish Pandey, who is predominantly a batter. Cricket fans know that he is a dependable top-order batter, who was the first ever Indian to score a century in IPL history. Meanwhile, KC Cariappa could be under massive pressure. The former KKR and RR player was once considered a mystery spinner in the league and it wouldn’t come as a surprise if he got a gig in IPL 2025. But now, only time will tell if IPL franchises would show interest on the 30-year-old.
