Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday paid a heartfelt tribute to his childhood coach Ramakant Achrekar on his birth anniversary.
Thankful for his time, Tendulkar credited his success in the field to the invaluable coaching he received from Achrekar. He accompanied the tribute with a childhood photo of Tendulkar taking batting lessons under his mentor’s tutelage.
“To the man who made me the cricketer I became! The lessons he taught me have stayed with me throughout my life. Remembering you all the more on your birth anniversary. Thank you so much for everything you did for me Achrekar Sir,” tweeted Tendulkar.
Ramakant Acharkekar, the legendary coach of Tendulkar’s career, has been widely acclaimed for his immense contribution to the sport. The legendary coach passed away at the age of 87 on January 2, 2019.
In 1990, he was honoured with the Dronacharya Award, recognizing his coaching excellence. Additionally, he was bestowed with the Padma Shri Award in 2010, one of India’s highest civilian honours.
Known as the ‘Little Master’, Tendulkar has the highest number of Test runs (15,921) in 200 innings at an above-average strike rate of more than 53, having scored 51 centuries and 68 fifties.
Tendulkar has an impressive ODI record of 18,426 runs at an healthy averagee of 44.83 with 49 hundreds and 96 fifties. In terms of the international records, Tendulkar is the highest run getter in the history of cricket, having amassed 34,357 runs at an steady average of 48.52 with 664 matches played. He is also the only batsman to have 100 international hundreds.

Apart from his individual brilliance, he also played a key role in India winning the ICC Cricket World cup in 2011, thus cementing his place in cricket history.
