Excitement is building as Major League Cricket (MLC 2024), the marquee T20 league in the United States, announces the commencement of its highly anticipated second season on July 4. The league’s organizers are gearing up for another thrilling edition, set to kick off on Independence Day, just four days after the conclusion of the 2024 T20 World Cup, jointly hosted by the United States and the West Indies.
Unlike the first season, which operated under a single round-robin format due to time constraints, the upcoming season (MLC 2024) is expected to feature a double round-robin format as per Cricbuzz. With the tournament set to conclude by early August, cricket enthusiasts can look forward to an extended and action-packed season.
MLC 2024 Venues?
While the venues for the upcoming event remain undisclosed, there’s speculation that MLC might expand its footprint by adding two more venues for season two.
In addition to the existing Grand Prairie and Morrisville venues, MLC is eyeing the potential of utilizing the 34,000-seater pop-up venue in Long Island, NY, erected by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the World Cup. Furthermore, MLC has identified its upcoming facility at George Mason University in the Washington DC area as another potential venue, particularly for World Cup warm-up events.
Expressing optimism about the upcoming season, Justin Geale, Tournament Director of Major League Cricket, stated, “The tremendous success of the inaugural Major League Cricket season provides a perfect platform to propel American cricket to even greater heights in 2024.” Geale anticipates the participation of more world-class players in the second season, ensuring an incredible summer for cricket enthusiasts in America, coinciding with the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Building on the success of its debut season, which witnessed significant signings at record-breaking amounts, the MLC 2024 is poised to retain the star power that elevated the league’s profile.
With the window free of white-ball cricket scheduled for major cricketing nations like England, Australia, New Zealand, West Indies, and Pakistan, MLC aims to continue its ascent as a premier destination for top-tier T20 cricket. As July 4 approaches, cricket fans can anticipate a summer spectacle as Major League Cricket takes center stage once again.
