  • MLC officials are reportedly organising a player scouting combine that will take place in Houston from March 1–8.
  • The top American-based players from Minor League Cricket, the MLC’s feeder league, will compete in trial matches throughout the eight-day combine.
  • Players will have one last chance at the combine to catch the attention of teams before the draught.

Those who have been recruited by the organisers to relocate to the USA and participate as local players are among those who are anticipated to be featured players at the combine and in the MLC draught, in part in order to become eligible to play for the USA after fulfilling a three-year residency ICC qualification period. Due to their domestic residency, rosters can be strengthened without using players from abroad.

These players include the former New Zealand all-rounder Corey Anderson (now based in Dallas), the former Pakistan batter Sami Aslam (now based in San Francisco), the former South Africa spinner Dane Piedt (now based in North Carolina), the former England fast bowler Liam Plunkett (now based in Philadelphia), and the former India U-19 World Cup winning captain Unmukt Chand (now based in Philadelphia) (San Francisco).

Foreign players are not anticipated to be selected in the draft, similar to how Minor League Cricket drafting have been conducted. According to sources, teams will deal directly with players to fill the international positions on their squads. The precise allocation of slots for international and domestic players is still being worked out.

For its debut season, the six-team franchise league will be played at a recently remodelled facility in Grand Prairie, Texas, a suburb of Dallas. By the end of spring, the 7200 permanent seat stadium, formerly known as the Airhogs Stadium, is expected to be completed. A single round-robin format will be used over the 18-day event from July 13 to July 30 before a four-match playoff round.

The six MLC franchises already have connections to the IPL and support from well-known South Asian Americans. The Knight Riders Group, one of the MLC’s original investors, will manage the Los Angeles franchise, and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella is one of the Seattle-based franchise’s key investors.
