History! Jasprit Bumrah becomes first Indian pacer to become World No 1 Test bowler

Jasprit Bumrah replaces Ravichandran Ashwin as the World No 1 Test bowler after bagging nine wickets against England in 2nd Test.

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is the new World No 1 Test bowler in the latest ICC Test Rankings. Bumrah takes the top replacing teammate Ravichandran Ashwin after match-winning figures of 9/91 in the IND vs ENG 2nd Test in Vizag. And with his maiden World No 1 spot in Test, he has become first Asian player to claim all three top spots in Test, ODIs and T20Is. Virat Kohli is the other Asian batter to achieve that feat. Bumrah is also the first Indian fast bowler to become World No 1 in Test.

Raichandran Ashwin slipped to No 3 with 841 rating points while Kagiso Rabada moves to 2nd with 851 rating points. Jasprit Bumrah is on top with 881 points.

Jasprit Bumrah, the all format bowler

While he maybe world No 1 in Test, his numbers in ODIs and T20Is make him an all-format great.

In Tests, he averages 20.19 while in ODIs and T20Is, he averages 23.55 and 19.66 respectively, making him a lethal bowler to face.

India to rest World No 1?

However, despite powering India to a win in Vizag, Jasprit Bumrah could miss the IND vs ENG 3rd Test in Rajkot. With IPL 2024 and T20 World Cup 2024 coming up, Team India want to rotate the pace bowlers, especially Bumrah.

As per India’s workload management plan, Bumrah might be rested from Rajkot Test in favour of Mohammed Siraj, who will return after a short break.
