When Rishabh Pant is behind the stumps, there seems to be no need for commentators in the box, and he proves this statement time and again. In the recently held Duleep Trophy game between India A and India B, Pant, who was playing for India B and is known for his cheeky one-liners, once again showcased his comic prowess with India’s only Chinaman bowler, Kuldeep Yadav—not just once, but twice.
The incident occurred on Day 4 of the Duleep Trophy first round. India A was struggling at 147 for 7 in response to a target of 275. Yadav, who was stretching the game with his batting and trying to take it as deep as possible, Pant’s humorously request to fielders to come closer, as he anticipated Kuldeep would take a single. Kuldeep cheekily replied that he would not move, and Pant hilariously asked him to swear on his mother.
Pant’s stump mic comedy show didn’t stop there. In the 43rd over of the Duleep Trophy match, with the Kuldeep looking all charged to take India B bowlers , Pant once again pushed his humor. He amusingly instructed the cover fielder to open up the field, saying, “We have a ‘plan’ to dismiss him.” Pant added from behind the stumps, “Isko single lene de, iske liye bohot tagda plan banaaya hai” (Let him take a single; I’ve set a strong plan for him).
Kuldeep replied, “Theek hai yaar, kyun pareshaan ho raha hai” (It’s okay, you need to calm down!).
Pant dropped the mic with, “Phir out ho na jaldi” (Then get out quickly! )
Will Rishabh Pant play in India vs Bangladesh Test?
There is a strong possibility that Pant will feature as the wicketkeeper for India in the Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19. KL Rahul, who has looked sluggish, scored 57 runs for India A in the Duleep Trophy game. In contrast, Pant scored a quickfire 61 for India B in the second innings, making him the favorite for the position. We may soon see this superstar in the India Test jersey.
