Lucky! WATCH Pakistan’s Shan Masood survive two dismissals on single delivery in T20 Blast

Masood was hit-wicket and run out on the same ball but managed to remain not-out in a bizarre set of incidents.

Yorkshire captain Shan Masood survived a double scare in a single ball during an eventful Vitality T20 Blast 2024 match against Lancashire at the Headingly in Leeds on Friday, June 21. Masood was hit-wicket and run out on the same ball but managed to remain not-out in a bizarre set of incidents.

Lucky escape

Masood attempted to play an unconvential shot off the delivery of Lancashire pacer Jack Blatherwick during the 15th over of Yorkshire’s innings. But the bails were knocked out when Shan Masood trod on the stumps by accident. Blatherwick’s delivery was a no-ball, but he saw Masood’s departure from the crease as an opportunity to run him out.

Masood’s batting partner Joe Root was hoping for a quick single and crossed the midway of the crease. As Shan Masood was still a long way from the crease, Jack Blatherwic removed the bails at the non-striker’s end. Despite the bowler delivering a no-ball, the run-out remains valid. However, the Lancashire players who spoke with the on-field umpire were surprised when the umpire rejected Masood’s run-out dismissal.

Decision within laws of cricket

The on-field umpire’s decision to deny Shan Masood’s run-out was made in accordance with the Maryleborne Cricket Club’s (MCC) regulations regarding cricket. If a player leaves the wicket thinking they are out, the umpire has the authority to reject the batter’s run-out, according to law 31.7.
