LSG paying top IPL 2025 retention Nicholas Pooran over Rs 20 crore: Report

Pooran was signed by LSG for Rs 16 crore at the 2023 IPL auction.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are willing to go overboard. The franchise, which chose to retain Nicholas Pooran as their top retention over captain KL Rahul, will pay the West Indian over Rs 20 crore for the IPL 2025 season. Seen as one of the most destructive T20 batters in the world, Pooran has managed to convince LSG that he’s essential to the team’s success and therefore the franchise are willing to pay top dollar for him.

Big bucks calling

According to RevSportz, Pooran would earn at least Rs 4 crore more compared to the last IPL season. Having been bought for Rs 16 crore at the 2023 auction, Pooran would see a minimum of a 25% hike in money bagged. Despite taking home over Rs 20 crore, the southpaw might not be the highest-paid player in IPL 2025. Heinrich Klaasen might take Rs 23 crore home if confirmed as Sunrisers Hyderabad‘s top retention.

How Nicholas Pooran sealed the deal

LSG weren’t happy with their captain KL Rahul’s strike rate and intent. The management and support staff (head coach Justin Langer and mentor Zaheer Khan) were all in agreement that it was time to move on. So they went looking in the opposite direction. Luckily, they had someone who fitted the role like a glove fits a hand in Pooran. Due to his high intent, the franchise earmarked him.

No one in LSG’s history has averaged more than Pooran, and no one who’s even scored 20 runs does it faster than him. Add that along with his success all over the globe in franchise cricket, and LSG decided that he’d be their top pick. Pooran then met with LSG’s owner Sanjiv Goenka on Tuesday (October 29) at the RPSG group’s Kolkata office to sign the contract, which, as we know now, is well over Rs 20 crore.
