Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka spoke right after his side’s retention list was released. The LSG owner claimed that he and his team have retained the players who have the mindset to win. He further went on to claim that they have kept only those players who put the team ahead of their personal milestones. And this proves to be the main reason why KL Rahul has not been retained by the team.
The biggest news that came out in IPL 2025 Retention was former skipper KL Rahul not getting retained. In his place, it was Nicholas Pooran who topped the retention charts for a whopping price of 21 crores.
LSG opts for players who play for the team and not themselves
“We wanted to retain players with the mindset to win, who would put the team winning above their personal aspirations,” LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka told Star Sports.
Reports previously emerged that KL Rahul wasn’t keen to continue with the team for personal and professional reasons. And with the club offering Nicholas Pooran 21 crores, meant there was no chance for the side to retain their captain as well.
“It was the fastest decision that we made. , Zaheer, the thinktank, and the analyst decided that he (Nicholas Pooran) is going to be a number 1 pick. And the decision was made in less than two minutes,” said Sanjiv Goenka.
