Shreyas Iyer-led Punjab Kings have started the IPL 2025 season with back-to-back victories, marking the fourth time they’ve won their opening two matches in an IPL season. After defeating Gujarat Titans in a high-scoring thriller, they came back after a week of rest and defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 8 wickets at Ekana Stadium, climbing to the second spot on the points table.
In the win, Iyer played a big part. He helped Punjab Kings reach the total by scoring a half-century. Not just with the bat, he performed really well as a leader too.
Speculations with Rishabh Pant post-match
Following Tuesday’s match at the Ekana Stadium, LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka had a conversation with Shreyas Iyer, sparking speculation among fans on social media. Some fans speculated that Goenka might be trying to persuade Iyer to leave Punjab Kings and join Lucknow Super Giants.
The sight of Goenka chatting with Rishabh Pant, who was signed for a record INR 27 crore, also brought back memories of the KL Rahul incident for some fans again.
Rishabh Pant’s struggles with LSG
Rishabh Pant has had a disappointing start to the season, managing only 17 runs in three innings, including a brief stint of two runs off five balls against Punjab. , “It (the total) wasn’t enough, we were 20-25 runs short, but that’s part and parcel of the game. Still assessing the conditions at our home ground. It’s always going to be difficult to get a big total when you lose early wickets, but each and every player is trying hard to take the game forward. The idea was to get a slow wicket. I think the slower balls were sticking in. We got to learn from this game and move forward. There are a lot of positives, can’t say much.” He said after the match.
