Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have announced Rishabh Pant as their captain for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. Calling a special press conference in Kolkata, founder and chairman of RPSG Group, Sanjiv Goenka, confirmed that the wicketkeeper batter, who was Delhi Capitals captain from 2021-24, will lead LSG in the 18th edition of the IPL.
Rishabh Pant, LSG captain for IPL 2025
After acquiring Rishabh Pant for a record-breaking Rs 27 crore in Jeddah, it was virtually confirmed that LSG would name him as the replacement for KL Rahul, who was their skipper from the inception of the franchise in 2022 until last year. The only other realistic captaincy candidate LSG had, barring Pant, was Nicholas Pooran, who was their top retention (Rs 21 crore) before the auction. When the time came, Goenka backed Pant and confirmed that he’ll be the main in charge going forward.

Pant will be in the same league as Dhoni, says LSG owner
“I was very clear that I wanted Rishabh Pant in the Lucknow Super Giants at any cost (at the auction). Let anyone say whatever they want to say. I knew that no one would bid as much as I would for Rishabh Pant. I see a born leader in him. From my point of view, he will probably be the best captain IPL has ever seen. People say ‘Mahi, Rohit’ in IPL’s most successful captains list. Mark my words, after 10-12 years it’ll be ‘Mahi, Rohit, and Rishabh Pant,'” Goenka said while announcing Pant as LSG skipper.
