LSG might have done exceptionally well at the IPL 2025 Auction to bag Rishabh Pant for INR 27 Cr, but it gave a feeling, that not much of thought was put in assembling rest of the squad. And for now, for IPL 2025, they look like a half-baked squad only, who can maybe put up a decent show with the bat, but will largely struggle with the ball.
The team lacks depth in the bowling department, with Ravi Bishnoi, Akash Deep and Avesh Khan emerging as the senior-most bowlers in the squad. So, in short, after retaining Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan and Bishnoi they won’t really have much options. Apart from that, if one of their premier fast bowlers gets injured — they have fragile fast bowlers — they would have a really tough IPL. But still InsideSport tries to compile their best bowling unit for the tournament.
If Fit Mayank Yadav Plays
There is no doubt over Mayank Yadav’s ability. He impressed in IPL 2024, playing 4 matches and picking up 7 wickets, and then for India, playing 3 matches and picking up four wickets..but in between he has only been injured. There is no guarantee if he will play the full tournament or not.
Hopes on Akash Deep & Avesh Khan
But then the team can always look at India bowlers Akash Deep and Avesh Khan. Despite Mayank and Mohsin being retained, these two would be the team mainstays, as it appears. The former has picked up 49 wickets in 42 matches in T20s, while Avesh has 152 in 127 matches. So, he will play for sure. There is Shamar Joseph and Rajvardhan Hangargekar in the squad as well, but they are unlikely to get a chance in case the other pacers do well.
Ravi Bishnoi & Shahbaz Ahmed as Spinners
The leg-spinner wasn’t great in IPL 2024, and would like to make amends now. In 14 matches he had only 10 wickets — but what makes him special is, he can contain runs. He is a starter for LSG. Also, if Lucknow is looking for an all-rounder, Shahbaz Ahmed could be a viable option. This year for SRH, he ended up picking up 7 wickets in 16 matches, and also scored 215 runs. Also, the team doesn’t have any quality foreign bowler, so it would only be an all-Indian attack.
