Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are in a spot of bother. The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 hasn’t even started, and they may have already lost two pacers. Mayank Yadav, Akash Deep, Avesh Khan and Mohsin are yet to join the team as they are under rehabilitation at the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (previously National Cricket Academy).
LSG in massive trouble
Mayank is expected to miss the first half of the IPL 2025 season due to a lower back injury he sustained last year. Akash returned from the Centre of Excellence (CoE) last month but has gone back once again. Avesh and Mohsin are yet to regain fitness as well. This leaves them in a sticky wicket, and LSG mentor Zaheer Khan admits it.
“We can’t really say much as our players are currently with the NCA. We are working alongside them to see how things move forward. The situation is dynamic, and when you’re talking about the IPL, you have to be ready for uncertainties to occur,” Zaheer said in a press conference.
The only overseas pacer LSG has, Shamar Joseph, is also injury-prone. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh won’t bowl either. But Zaheer isn’t giving excuses. He admits it’s tough, but they’ll have to make do.
“We plan for the season accordingly with 24 players; we have to field the playing XI that upholds the brand of cricket we want and win. This is a positive unit, and you will get to see a positive approach,” said Zaheer in a press conference.
