Gambhir lavishes praises for Rohit and Kohli. Claims career not over for ace duo, can play ODI World Cup 2027 if fitness persists

Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli might have retired from T20Is. But that doesn’t mean it is the end for them in white ball cricket. New India Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir believes that if the duo have fitness then they can play in the 2027 ODI World Cup.

After winning the ICC T20 World Cup, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma announced their decision to step down from the shortest format of the game. However, the duo are eager to continue their stint in ODIs and Test cricket for Team India. And Gambhir too echoes their thoughts.

2027 ODI World Cup Possible for Rohit-Kohli

Gambhir heaped huge praises for both the ace batters. Gambhir in India’s Press Conference claimed that the duo have shown time and again that they can perform in the big stage. Furthermore, he added the duo has a lot of cricket left in them

“They have shown what they can deliver on the big stage. Both have lot of cricket left in them. The Champions Trophy, if they keep their fitness then even the 2027 World Cup. Looking at what they can deliver, they are still world class and any team would want to have both of them,” Gambhir said.

Currently, the focus for Rohit and Kohli is on the WTC and the ICC Champions Trophy. Should the duo continue to retain their form and especially the fitness, they can play the ODI World Cup in 2027. Gambhir claimed that such is the caliber of both the players that any team would want to have them.
