Karnataka keeper-batter KL Rahul has made his intentions about returning to Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025 very clear. He was released by Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) ahead of IPL 2025 auction, this paving the way for the star to join a new side in the upcoming season. Rahul, who had earlier expressed his desire to return to RCB, once echoed his statement on reuniting with RCB.
KL Rahul wants to return to RCB, doesn’t matter as player or captain
Speaking to Star Sports, KL Rahul opened up about his association with RCB in the past. The Karnataka batter reminisced his good times with the trophy-less franchise when he re-joined the franchise in 2016 and thanked the fans for all the support and love. Rahul revealed that he was prepared to join RCB in any capacity (as captain or player). KL Rahul said that “Bengaluru was his home” and that the people knew him as “local Kannada boy”, adding that it was the auction year and he could go anywhere.

KL Rahul’s stint with RCB
KL Rahul started his career with RCB in 2013, but he didn’t get enough game time to show the world what it was capable of. He then went to Sunrisers Hyderabad, struggled there for two years, and returned to RCB.
In a team full of heavyweight batters like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Chris Gayle, and Shane Watson, Rahul held up his own really well. That 2016 season will always be remembered for Kohli, but he outshone each of these four greats at one point or another. Only three players scored more runs at a faster strike rate than Rahul (397 runs at 44.11 while striking at 146.97) in IPL 2016.
Why KL Rahul should join RCB in IPL 2025?
RCB is not expected to retain present skipper Faf du Plessis, given the slump in his form and will need a new captain to take over the reins. It is also highly unlikely that the team would hand over captaincy back to Virat Kohli either. Not to forget, RCB does not have a strong Indian batter apart from Virat Kohli and this is where KL Rahul would add great advantage to their team in their quest for an elusive IPL title.
