Day 5 started with a small delay, but once the play started, England were on spot as the change in ball made a trick for the hosts. Both of their openers were the victims of the brilliant swing produced by Chris Woakes, who has been fantastic since his inclusion in the Headingley Test. Mark Wood produced a beauty to remove Marnus Labuschagne to push Australia down to 169/3.

Steven Smith and Travis Head batted beautifully adding 95 runs for the fourth wicket, keeping the Aussies in the hunt. Just before lunch, Smith had gloved one to the leg slip, but Ben Stokes made a mess of it as he dropped the control in the grab, celebrating a way too early.

There was no play possible in the second session and it was pouring down really hard. With 47 overs remaining in the day, the English pacers came out with an aggressive intent as they completely bamboozled the Aussie middle-order. A little resistance was shown by the Australian lower-order. However, it was too much of an ask with Broad bowling two magical deliveries and scalp the last two wickets for the Three Lions for the one final time.
