It isn’t very often that a team reaches the 300-run mark in T20s. In fact, the mark has only been crossed twice in all the T20s across the globe — Zimbabwe 344/4 vs Gambia, and Nepal 314/3 vs Mangolia. And now, Baroda became only the third team to breach the 300-run mark (349), during their Thursday’s match vs Sikkim, in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. This happens to be the new world record too.
Hardik Pandya-less Baroda Set World Record
And at the centre of this historic batting performance in Baroda vs Sikkim match, was batter Bhanu Pania who reached his maiden ton in only 42-deliveries. Mind you, Bhanu is not a very well known name in Indian domestic circuit, and had no exceptional hitting talent. At least his stats said so.. In 35 T20s for Baroda before this, Bhanu Pania had scored 461 runs, with just one fifty to his name, and at a strike rate of 135.98.
Apart from that, this is the first time that any side from India has been able to breach the 300-run mark ever in T20s. Earlier, Team India had finished their innings on 297 vs Bangladesh in October. Meanwhile, Pania wasn’t the only player who shone with the bat. Opener Shashwat Rawat scored 43 from just 16, followed by Abhimanyu Singh’s 17-ball 53.

Shivalik Sharma chipped in with 55 from 17 deliveries and Vishnu Solanki added 50 in 16 balls. All this, in the absence of MI skipper Hardik Pandya, who is the most notable member of this Baroda outfit. Krunal Pandya did not get a chance to bat as the other made hay.
