The Women’s Premier League (WPL) is scheduled to start its second season at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, February 23. Here is the list of players who have withdrawn their names from WPL and who are their replacements.
Withdrawn players and their replacement
Name | Team | Reason for Withdrawal | Replacement |
---|---|---|---|
Lauren Bell | UP Warriorz | International duty | Chamari Athapththu |
Heather Knight | Royal Challengers Bangalore | International duty | Nadine de Klerk |
Lauren Cheatle | Gujarat Giants | Injury | Lea Tahuhu |
Kashvee Gautam | Gujarat Giants | Injury | Sayali Sathgare |
Kanika Ahuja | Royal Challengers Bangalore | Injury | Shraddha Pokarkar |
Chamari Athapaththu who went unsold in the WPL 2024 Auction, replaced England’s Lauren Bell in UP Warriorz. Bell chose to withdraw in order to play the upcoming tour of New Zealand, which begins on March 19. For the same reason, Heather Knight of the RCB will also miss the season; South Africa’s Nadine de Klerk will replace her.
Notable absences include former West Indies all-arounder Deandra Dottin and Australia bowling-all-arounder Kim Garth of Gujarat Giants following the previous season.
Spin-bowling all-rounder Kanika Ahuja was also forced to withdraw due to an injury, in addition to Gautam. Sayali Satghare, an uncapped all-rounder, has taken Gautam’s spot at the RCB, while Shradda Pokharkar has taken Ahuja’s spot.
