Two days ago, Virat Kohli pulled out of the first two Tests in the IND vs ENG Test series. Often considered to be the biggest ambassador of Test cricket, his pulling out of the 5-match Test series has resulted in many ex-cricketers talking about how this will impact India’s chances of winning the series.
However, former England captain Michael Atherton took this to another level. Talking about Virat Kohli on the Sky Sports Cricket Podcast, Atherton likened Kohli to golf legend Tiger Woods, highlighting how his name is synonymous with Test cricket.
“Kohli’s absence is like Tiger Woods missing Majors. He is that big in that part of the world.”
He further added that despite Virat Kohli not being India’s skipper, he’s still the biggest star in cricket, and his absence will impact the series.
“Although Virat is not Team India’s captain, he is still the biggest star, and fans follow him to every part of the country. His absence has diminished the importance of the series.”
