Lifeline for SKY! Hardik Pandya’s injury prolongs Suryakumar Yadav’s World Cup stint

Suryakumar Yadav gets fresh lifeline, set to feature in India Playing XI for 2 more games after Hardik Pandya's injury

Suryakumar Yadav gets 2 more matches in the ongoing ICC World Cup to leave his mark on the Indian Playing XI. As per the latest reports, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is yet to recover from his ankle injury and is likely to miss two more matches for the Men in Blue. This acts as a boon for SKY to feature for the Indian Cricket Team and showcase his worth in the team.

“Surya will probably get his chance and we know what Surya can do. So, our confidence is in Surya till Hardik comes back,” said KL Rahul at the Press Conference ahead of the India vs England World Cup clash. Moreover, also a senior BCCI official has said to us that if India win against England and Sri Lanka then Hardik will directly play in semi-final which means more games for SKY.

Hardik Pandya’s Injury – SKY’s Boon

Hardik Pandya’s injury in the Bangladesh match has been a boon nonetheless for Suryakumar Yadav. The fiery batter played against the Kiwis but fell victim to an unfortunate runout after managing just 2 runs. But now, with Hardik set to be on the bench for at least 2 more matches, the World Number 1 T20 batter should step up and showcase his mark.

“Hardik is still under medication. While the swelling on his left ankle has subsided considerably, he will start bowling only towards the weekend. Right now, important is to give him time to recover,” PTI quoted an NCA source.

“Pandya has suffered a bad sprain but fortunately not a fracture. The BCCI medical team wants to take maximum precaution. He is likely to miss next two to three matches. The team wants him fully fit for the knock-out stage,” PTI quoted a BCCI source.

Hardik Pandya ruled out of World Cup games against England, Sri Lanka

Hardik is currently at the NCA undergoing his recovery. For Rohit Sharma and the Men in Blue, replacing Hardik is not an easy job. Since Pandya is a well-established all-rounder, it takes 2 specialist players to replace him. As a result in the previous game against New Zealand, India dropped Shardul Thakur to the bench as Mohammed Shami joined the Playing XI. SKY who is a finisher by nature took the number 6 spot.

Irrespective of the pitch conditions in Lucknow, SKY will start the game surely. There can be debates about the selection of Ishan Kishan but it is understood that the Men in Blue will opt for a right-handed finisher to accompany Ravindra Jadeja. SKY being an able fielder adds new dynamics to the game and moreover, despite his poor ODI record, a player of his caliber brings the X-factor to the team.
