“Leader among Men”: Brendan McCullum asks Indian fans to back head Gautam Gambhir

Gambhir's place as head coach of Indian team has come under the scanner after poor performances against NZ & AUS

The India Cricket Team head coach Gautam Gambhir’s performances has come under the scanner. However, England head coach Brendan McCullum has asked the Indian fans to back Gambhir. In fact, McCullum himself lavished praises for Gambhir, claiming him to be a leader among men. The Kiwi also asserted that with time, Gambhir would surely excel.

Gautam Gambhir‘s exploits have now come under the scanner after India’s disappointing run in Test cricket off late. First Rohit Sharma and Co lost the home series to New Zealand 3-0. And then they faced a humiliating 3-1 loss in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. These series saw India failing to make it to the WTC Finals, a feat they have managed to achieve in the last 2 cycles.

McCullum praises Gambhir

“Guatam Gambhir is brilliant. I have worked under him. He is a strong leader of men and he will excel with time. And there is no doubt he is going to perform well,” England head coach Brendan McCullum said in the press conference on Monday.

India’s next assignment in the home T20I and ODI series against the Three Lions. However, ahead of the 1st T20I in Kolkata, McCullum requested the Indian fans to back their head coach. He added that he has worked under Gambhir previously. The Kiwi legend further added that with time Gambhir would excel and perform well with time.

Workload management on for England?

The England Cricket Team are keen on keeping their pacers fresh. Pacers like Gus Atkinson, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood are available for the Three Lions. However, McCullum hinted that he plans on keeping the players fresh for the Champions Trophy. And thus rotation policy will surely be ensured for the IND vs ENG series.

“Obviously, the target is the ICC Champions Trophy. And we have got quite a few options available with us. Our objective is also to keep the guys fresh and give chances to other as well. The team is fully fit and ready to go,” McCullum concluded.
