Things are going from bad to worse for Rohit Sharma. Nothing seems to be going right for him, as captain and as a batter. Already struggling with finding the right balance for the team composition, dropping Shubman Gill and allowing Australia to go from 299/6 to 474/10. Now, he’s registered another low score. This time at his preferred position, opening.
The decision to move KL Rahul to number three wasn’t appreciated by many experts, considering how good he’d been while opening. Rohit was looking to bring himself back into form, but all he’s done is make matters worse, not just for him but for the whole team.

Rohit Sharma bad run continues
The Indian captain was dismissed on what was a fairly innocuous ball by his counterpart Pat Cummins. A short ball that was way outside off stump and was perhaps there to be dispatched over point or third man. But Rohit chose to guide it to the leg side. All he got was an edge, and Scott Boland pouched it with ease.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting wasn’t pleased with how Rohit was dismissed. He described the dismissal as a ‘lazy shot’ and stated that to him, Rohit didn’t look ‘committed.’ He was neither trying to be aggressive nor looking to be defensive but caught somewhere in between.
“That’s just a lazy, not switched on, not up for the moment type of shot. He’s been known as one of the best hookers and pullers of the ball since he made his debut, but that’s just not there. It’s nothing. He’s not committed; not really looking to be aggressive, he’s just looking to tap it on the head,” Ponting said on air.
“Might have held in the wicket, yes, it might have seamed away from him a fraction. But if you’re going to survive against this Australian attack, you’ve got to be switched on. You’ve got to be making good decisions. If you’re not, they’ll knock you over every time,” Ponting added.
