Currently on a 4-match losing streak as captain, an angry Rohit Sharma decided to punish Yashasvi Jaiswal. The India cricket team had planned to leave for Brisbane earlier today. The team bus was ready to leave with all the players, barring Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah, who will reach Brisbane via a chartered flight with their family, were ready to go.
Team India leaves Yashasvi Jaiswal behind
According to SportsTak, captain Rohit, along with the team, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar, were all present in the hotel lobby at the scheduled time for departure from the team hotel in Adelaide. But there was no sign of Jaiswal. The Indian captain decided to wait.
But there was still no sign of the youngster. Rohit was infuriated, and after a brief discussion, it was decided that the team manager and senior security officer would stay back at the hotel and wait for Jaiswal while the team would leave. The bus was to depart at 8:30 AM ACDT for the Adelaide airport, and Jaiswal arrived at the hotel lobby 20 minutes later. Naturally, he didn’t take the team bus. He realised that he was left behind.
Rohit may have punished Jaiswal by leaving him behind, but the team management had arranged for a car for him. Along with Team India’s senior security officer, Jaiswal left for the airport. It’s uncertain why the opener was late, and from what can be gathered, it was the first instance of Jaiswal being late. Knowing he’ll be left behind the next time as well, it might be his last as well.
