LA28 Olympics: East Coast vs West Coast battle to wage on to ensure boost in cricket growth

East Coast vs West Coast battle to wage on to ensure boost in cricket growth in USA for Los Angeles Olympics 2028

There remains a major disparity in whether Cricket in the Los Angeles Olympics will be held on the west coast or on the east coast. Latest reports claim that the cricket matches can be shifted from the west coast to the east coast. The reason for this is very simple – gain more TV viewership from South Asia.

The Olympic committee has understood that the majority of the viewership will be coming from India and other regions of South Asia. Moving the entire cricket tournament from west to east helps in two different ways. The logistics issue will be greatly reduced while the time difference to India will also be cut short from 12 hours to 9 hours.

New Cricket Stadium in New York?

The Eissenbower Stadium in New York where the ICC T20 World Cup was held was torn down right after the tournament. However, as per reports Mumbai Indians owner Mukesh Ambani plans on building a world-class cricket stadium in New York.

Major League Cricket teams San Francisco Unicorns and Seattle Orcas have been on the hunt to look for Stadiums. The two teams are desperate to find a permanent venue where all the matches will be held in the Los Angeles Olympics 2028. As for the Orcas, they plan on building a 6000-8000 seater stadium by 2026.

“My hope is Seattle has a stadium up and running by then because we have as much potential to host Olympic (cricket) games as anyone else,” Orcas co-owner Soma Somasegar told Forbes

“We’re looking at Santa Clara but also a couple of other options as well. I think we’ll have more clarity around that next year. That (having a stadium before 2028 Games) is our hope and ambition, so that we can get it done in time for the LA Olympics. That’s an internal deadline that we’re working towards. And clearly a lot depends on getting the support of the local government…wherever that is…to get things done in time, to get the permit approvals done,” Unicorns co-owner Anand Rajaraman told Forbes.
